Phone won't charge: your charging port is probably just dirty

If your smartphone has stopped charging, before assuming something's seriously broken, consider this: the charging port is one of the most exposed spots on the phone. Dust, lint and debris build up inside over time until the cable can no longer make proper contact. In many cases, a simple cleaning solves everything.
First: try a different cable Before you even touch the port, try a different cable — a new one or one borrowed from a friend. If the phone charges with the other cable, the problem was the cable, not the port. Cables get damaged easily, especially if they're bent often or pulled out with force.
Second: clean the port If changing the cable doesn't fix it, the port might be clogged with dust or lint. How to clean it safely:
- Use a wooden toothpick or a soft brush with fine bristles — never needles, pins, or other metal objects that can damage the internal pins
- Gently move along the inner edges of the port to remove debris
- Don't blow into it with your mouth — the moisture from your breath makes things worse
- You can use a can of compressed air held at a distance to blow out the dust
After cleaning, try the cable again.
When the problem is more serious If neither changing the cable nor cleaning fixes it, the connector might be:
- Corroded — often after exposure to moisture or liquids
- Mechanically damaged — bent or broken pins after a fall
- Internally faulty — a problem with the motherboard contacts
In these cases, technical repair is needed. Bring the device to Dolomiti Repair in Santa Cristina Val Gardena: the diagnosis is free, and in most cases we solve the problem the same day.
How to prevent the problem
- Keep your phone away from dusty environments when possible
- Don't bend the cable at tight angles near the connector
- If you're not using the phone for long periods, cover the port with the protective plug if it has one
