Liquid damage: every minute counts

Water, drinks, rain, moisture. Contact with liquids is one of the most feared kinds of damage for a smartphone — and one of the most common. The good news is that a fast, professional response can make the difference between a recovered device and one lost for good.

What to do right away — before anything else

If your smartphone has come into contact with a liquid, follow these steps immediately:

• Turn the device off — this is the first thing to do, no exceptions
• Don't put it on charge — applying power to a wet device can cause short circuits and irreversible damage to the motherboard
• Don't shake it and don't use a hairdryer — heat and abrupt movement can push the liquid deeper inside
• Bring it to the lab as soon as possible — every hour that passes increases the risk of corrosion on the internal circuits

Diagnosis first

Every device that has suffered liquid damage undergoes a full diagnosis: we open the device, assess the extent of the damage, identify the affected components, and give you a clear picture of the situation before proceeding with any repair.

How we approach it

• Professional motherboard cleaning — we remove liquid and corrosion residue with specific products and professional equipment
• Microsoldering — where the liquid has damaged connections or components on the motherboard, we work directly on the circuit
• Replacement of damaged components — battery, screen, connectors or other components compromised by contact with the liquid are replaced with quality parts

Devices brought in late

We also accept devices where the damage happened a while ago. In these cases corrosion may have already spread, making recovery more complex. We still assess every situation individually — in many cases a repair is still possible, though we can't guarantee success without a prior diagnosis.

When to bring in the device

• The phone fell into water, even briefly
• The device was exposed to rain, intense humidity, or steam
• It came into contact with drinks, including sugary ones
• It shut off after contact with a liquid and won't turn back on
• It shows unusual behaviour after exposure to moisture

An important note

Liquid damage isn't always visible from the outside. Even a device that seems to work after contact with water can have hidden damage that shows up in the following days. If in doubt, bring it in for a diagnosis — prevention is always better than an emergency repair.
