Before assuming something's broken, consider this: your smartphone's camera lens is exposed all day to fingers, pockets, bags and every kind of surface. In most cases where photos come out blurry or out of focus, the cause is simply dirt on the outer lens — and the fix takes less than a minute.
How to clean the outer lens You don't need to turn off the phone, and you don't need any special products. Just a soft microfiber cloth — the same one you use for glasses — and a few seconds:
- Grab a clean microfiber cloth
- Clean the lens with light circular motions
- Check the result by opening the camera
Done. In most cases that's all it takes.
What not to use
- ❌ Toilet paper or tissues — they scratch the lens coating
- ❌ Your shirt or clothes — they add more dirt than they remove
- ❌ Breathing on the lens — the moisture leaves smudges
When the problem isn't dirt If the photo stays blurry, out of focus, or with permanent smudges after cleaning, the problem is inside the device. The most common causes are:
- Condensation inside the camera — often after exposure to humidity or temperature swings
- Damage to the sensor or internal optics
- An autofocus problem
In these cases, cleaning the outside won't fix it — the device needs to be opened in the lab for a diagnosis. Bring it to Dolomiti Repair in Santa Cristina Val Gardena: the diagnosis is free, and we'll tell you right away whether it's fixable.
Preventive tip Keep your phone in a case that also protects the camera — many cheap cases leave the lens completely exposed. A case with a raised edge around the camera significantly reduces accidental contact with surfaces.
