How to back up your phone before a repair

Before bringing your phone to the shop, always make a backup. Not because there's a risk of losing data during the repair — that almost never happens — but because prevention is always better than cure.

iPhone backup via iCloud

  1. Connect to WiFi
  2. Go to Settings → your name → iCloud → iCloud Backup
  3. Tap "Back Up Now"
  4. Check that the date shown is today's

iPhone backup via computer

  1. Connect your iPhone to a Mac or PC
  2. Open Finder on Mac or iTunes on PC and click on the phone
  3. Select "Back Up Now"
  4. Check "Encrypt local backup" to also save passwords and health data

Android backup via Google

  1. Go to Settings → Google → Backup
  2. Turn on Google One and tap "Back up now"

Photos only on Android

  1. Open Google Photos
  2. Tap your profile picture in the top right
  3. Select "Turn on backup"

What isn't backed up automatically

  • WhatsApp messages — turn on the separate backup via WhatsApp → Settings → Chats → Chat backup
  • Game data without built-in cloud sync

Before handing over the device Always check that the backup completed successfully by checking the date and time of the last backup. If you can't back up because the screen is broken or the phone won't turn on, let us know right away when you drop it off — at Dolomiti Repair in Santa Cristina Val Gardena we can often do the backup in the shop before starting any work.
